Neptune 7 unresponsive on MacBokk late 2010 with 8 GB ram and 250 SSD

Hello all,
I run a Neptune 7 on my Macbook late 2010 to help out my Mom whenever she has issues since I then can kind of replicate what she is struggling with - she has aa new Dell laptop where Neptune runs fine.

Whenever I use several programs Neptune kind of freezes - I can move the mouse cursor but all programs stay unresponsive and I can't close or open any more programs. SO I am stuck.
Sometimes a while later mouse click actions are being carried out - but one never knows.

What can I do to find out what is causing this.
The macbook has 8GB Ram, a 250 GB SSD and an Nvidia graphics card.

I couldn't install Neptune 6 which had these graphics driver issues - this one seemed to work but now again I experience these problems.
Any suggestions on what I can do to get to the cause of the issue?
The laptop itself should easily be able to run Neptune 7, right?

Yeah the laptop should be able to run it. The freezing issue seems to be still an issue with the graphics driver. It seems like it causes a freeze in the GPU itself.
Are you sure that the CPU and processes are not using 100% when this issue appears?
Can you try disabling the compositor in systemsettings or switch its output to opengl 3 or 2 respectively depending on which one you are using right now.
See if any of this helps.

The setting was:
Enable compositing
Output opengl 2
Allow applications to block compositing
and yes, CPU is hardly using anything when I use the "top" command.

Does that help?
I disable compositing now and see how that goes.

With compositing disabled it seems to work, but the Latte dock looks crappy.
Is there no way to use a driver with these Nvidia cards that can be properly used - like a standard driver that assures basic proper functionality?

monamtb I think you are using the nouveau driver which is the free and open source driver. You could try installing the official Nvidia driver.
We officially do not offer any support for this driver as it is proprietary software that we cannot control.
But if you want to try it you can install the nvidia-detect tool and run it in a terminal. It will tell you if your card is compatible and which driver to install.
You can install the nvidia-detect tool via

Unfortunatley, the nvidia-detect has the following output:

The Nividia 340 driver is only available up to Debian Buster.

So what to do?

Oh that means your nvidia card is not supported anymore by nvidia for modern linux distributions. Thats really unfortunate. Nothing else you can really do.
