Dell XPS 9550 Laptop Hangs on boot

So I just installed 7.0 on my Dell XPS 9550 Laptop with the lid closed using my external monitor.
The installation went fine.

Now when I try to use the internal screen it hangs after displaying "Loading initial ramdisk ...".

How can I solve this?

trixon Is it showing something on the external screen? Have you unplugged the external screen?

It hangs with and without the external when the lid is open.
The external is always black when the lid is open.

Once booted with the external connected Im able to remove it and use the laptop's.

I just tested to boot with the external monitor connected but when I reached the the grub menu I disconnected it.
Then it started up ok.

The difference was the resolution of the grub menu, with the external connected it's kind of low res but with only the laptop it's HiDPI.
I found a work around/solution by setting the custom resolution in Grub Customizer to 640x480.

trixon Ah ok. So its such an issue. Weird indeed. Glad you found a workaround. I think the issue might be a grub issue when it comes to autoprobing the capable resolution.
